Discover the interesting history and patent prints available portraying antique violin making. The earliest bowed string instrument was the lira, created in Europe in the 9th century, and became the inspiration for what later became the violin. The first account of what is known today as the violin can be found in the 'Epitome musical', published by Jambe de Fer in 1556. Andrea Amati created the oldest confirmed surviving violin in Cremona in 1564. It is known as the 'Charles IX'.

Leo Fender created the first instrument amplifiers that contained tone controls built within them. He introduced the first Fender electric guitar, the Broadcaster, in 1951. CBS bought Fender's company in 1965 when his health was failing, and the company began to grow. William Schultz purchased Fender from CBS in 1985, and Fender grew into the large company it is known as today. Learn more about the fascinating saga of Fender electric guitars with our vintage reprints.
